The Taylor family has a long tradition of involvement in law enforcement with just about every male in the family becoming a police officer, spanning back to the late 1800s. Michael Taylor and his son, Junior were no different. Junior became earned a regular beat just one week before he was found tragically murdered, shot execution style. After Junior's death, Michael along with the help of his boss, Harry Greenwood begin a search to find his son's killer. Michael suspects a drug lord named Matthew Harley of his son's murder and intends to have him arrested. At the same time, Michael’s wife, Jennifer hires a hitman/private investigator named Addison Jameston to find and kill his son's killer. During both investigations, it is revealed that a hooker named Elizabeth Williams who was the last person to see Junior alive holds the key to the identity of Junior’s murderer. After further investigation, it is realized that Elizabeth was having a relationship with Junior and she is now pregnant. Laura Linney also stars as District Attorney Wendy Melloman, who seems to be covering up details about the murder of Junior as a way of helping her boyfriend, Matthew Harley.

What the press would say:

Clint Eastwood once again captures human emotion at its greatest with this wonderful film that examines crime. Eastwood like he did with Mystic River and Dirty Harry shows humans who are flawed and have feelings of revenge and hatred in their minds. Spacek and Cooper give standout performances as the parents of a murdered police officer. Each character feels that they are responsible for their son's death and feels that they need to take revenge for their son's death. Haggis and Robert Moresco write a wonderful script to go with Eastwood's touching direction. The script captures the emotions of each character and gives each actor plenty of room to go over-the-top. With a perfect score and great cinematography, The Line moves and transitions to each character and their story elegantly. This is the definition of a gritty but lovely film.
